The center,
now under development, is situated on
Garbers Church Road in Harrisonburg,
with a hilltop site providing vistas
spanning the Valley. The 14-acre campus
has been designed as a farmstead with
a central garden. Plans include a reception
center, 1829 Mennonite log house, summer
kitchen, vintage Rockingham County barn,
1854 Burkholder - Myers house, one-room
school house and a meetinghouse.
Visitors will explore the life and faith
practices of Mennonites and Brethren as they
tour the farmstead. Methods of farming and
providing for a family will be demonstrated.
The relationships of individuals, families,
and community will be studied. At the conclusion
of the tour, visitors may reflect on their
observations of these simple and peace-loving
people.
The site will also feature a Visitor Center
with a gift shop offering books, art, crafts,
and special momentos.
